The CMA Awards, presented by the Country Music Association, are a peer-voted honor recognizing excellence in country music.
Country-genre works first released or at peak national prominence during the eligibility period and commercially available; CMA Professional voting membership is required to nominate and vote.

Country music genre
OfficialThe work is within the country music genre as recognized by the CMA.
Why it matters: The CMA Awards recognize country music, so work outside the genre is not eligible.
Released or prominent during the eligibility period
OfficialThe single, album, or music video was first released, or reached peak national prominence, during the eligibility period (2026 show: July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026).
Why it matters: Work must be first released or reach peak national prominence during the eligibility period to qualify.
Commercial availability
OfficialThe recording or product is commercially available to the public.
Why it matters: The recording must be commercially available to the public to be considered.
Decided by the CMA peer ballot
OfficialCMA Award winners are decided by CMA professional members through a peer ballot, not by an artist submission. For the 2026 cycle the eligibility period runs July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026; the first-round nominating ballot runs July 6–16, 2026; the second-round ballot August 4–17, 2026; and the final ballot October 1–27, 2026. Your work becomes eligible by meeting the release criteria — you do not enter or submit it yourself.
Why it matters: Understanding the peer-ballot process sets expectations: eligibility comes from the release, and nomination comes from CMA members' votes on published ballot dates.

Single of the Year
Category criteria
- RecipientsWho receives the award
Presented to the artist, producer, and mix engineer of the single.
- Eligibility conditionTop-10 chart requirement
The single must first reach the Top 10 during the eligibility period on at least one of: Billboard Country Airplay, Billboard Hot Country Songs, or Country Aircheck.
- ExceptionEarlier-release exception
An earlier release qualifies if it achieves its highest qualifying chart position during the current eligibility period, provided it has not previously appeared on a Final Ballot.

Greatest-hits and previously released compilation albums are not eligible.

The artist must be known primarily as a Country artist.

Ineligible if the artist has previously won a CMA Award, except for wins in Song of the Year, Musical Event of the Year, or Music Video of the Year.

Ineligible if the artist has twice previously been a final New Artist of the Year nominee.
